Good day Ringette fans! The Kinsmen U6 Sharks played host to their friends, the Lacombe Tim Bits, in Red Deer at the "Friends On Ice" Tournament. The tournament began at 10:30 Saturday morning in what I can only describe as an exhilarating atmosphere. Smiles adorned kids' faces as parents strapped on equipment and laced up tiny skates.

On Ice action saw two games played with the ice split in half, effectively doubling the action for the enthusiastic "Fans fans, in the stands." Action was fun, fast, and furious drawing gasps and groans from the Shark and Tim Bit faithful. The Shark's own "Locomotive" Lincoln drew thunderous applause as he steamed down the ice pulling off a sweet toe-drag around a Tim Bit's D-Man to tally a goal for the home side. Smooth skating Sloan glided around the ice like a seasoned veteran finding open line mates and racking up assist upon assist. Young "Jacked Up" Johnny showed off his skating prowess patrolling both ends of the ice. "Wild" Wyatt Jasper used his speed to advantage thwarting the Tim Bit offence while still notching goal after goal for the home side.

Meanwhile, cross-ice in the Kinsmen U6 Shark's other game, young "Growling" Gabby emerged as a "Stud D-Man" hindering the Tim Bit attack with her stick prowess. "Rowdy" Ryker and "Fearless" Flynn also stood out with a great two-way game, sticking to Timmie's offensive players like glaze on a doughnut, and contributing with their fiery brand of offense. Jett and Meghan skated fast and furious with linemate, Aeva. The "JAM" trio were grape er… great and stuck to their offensive guns firing in goal after goal for the Kinsmen U6 Sharks.

The second games of the day took place at 2:30 and what games they were. "Magic" Micah had a strong showing stunning the opposition with her stick handling ability and pinpoint passing. Kurtis cruised from end to end, potting point after point while "Shark Fin" Finnley patrolled the ice relentlessly stymieing the Tim Bit attack. "Radical" Rachel played with the ferocity of a dragon digging rings free of scrums. "Electric" Ella astounded spectators with her great vision and leadership. Yes, what a day, what a team, what a tournament.

In all seriousness, kids, family, and friends were treated to an exceptional day. Coach Stephanie doled out well deserved medals and pats on the back at the tournaments end. Proud friends and family swarmed the ice to catch a great moment in their little Sharks' lives. Cameras flashed and so did smiles as the 2012 "Friends On Ice Tournament" wrapped up.

Thanks to all the exceptional people who made this event happen. A humongous thank you goes out to the Lacombe Tim Bits for playing with us. You were great!

Ghostpine Farms Ltd.

The U10-4 Ghostpine Farms Ice Angels captured the gold medal during Red Deer Ringette's 28th Annual Friends on Ice Tournament.  The Ice Angels opened the tournament with a hard fought, 9-9 draw with the visiting Spruce Grove Ninjas.  Their second game,a back and forth barnburner, ended in a tough 9-8 loss to a talented Red Deer Jets team. Needing to win by six to secure a playoff spot against the Edmonton Edge, the girls went to work, and won their last game 12-3, punching their ticket to the playoffs.  In the semi-final, the Ice Angels were in tough against a heavily favoured St. Albert Slash squad.  Trailing by five goals, with less than twelve minutes to play, the Ice Angels scored seven unanswered goals, sending them to the gold medal game!  In the Championship Final, the Ice Angels were again up against the Red Deer Jets, and another closely fought game ensued.  In the end, the Ice Angels came back from a three goal deficit to take the win.  Each and every Ice Angel should be very proud of their hard work, resiliency and success in this tournament.  The team would like to thank the sponsors, GhostpineFarms, Red Deer Ringette, and the families who offer their support to our team and the sport of ringette!
